About me
Yasmine Anderson serves as the Cities Connecting Children to Nature (CCCN) Coordinator within the City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department’s Park Planning Division. In her role, she seeks to provide equitable access to nature for all children, with specific focus on Black and Latinx children in communities that are most impacted by systemic racism, underinvestment in green spaces, and inequitable access to resources. Using nature as a framework for equity, Yasmine integrates an anti-racist lens to build authentic connections to ensure children facing barriers have opportunities to foster a deeper appreciation for the environment and a lifelong connection with nature. She strives to make certain that CCCN Austin’s strategies align with the broader citywide objectives, which encompass policy implementation, forging new partnerships, enhancing nature-based programming, and promoting equitable access to the wonders of the outdoors. Yasmine’s journey to self-discovery, her commitment to anti-racism, and her dedication to continual learning and un-learning have helped her embrace her bi-racial identity. This, in turn, has been instrumental in healing generational traumas and unleashing the transformative potential of co-creating a deeply interconnected culture. Through the ongoing practice of centering racial equity, both in her personal life and professional endeavors, she weaves a powerful anti-racist perspective in the fabric of CCCN Austin initiative, manifesting it in both actions and words.
